Jacques Herbin inks are made using natural dyes. They are pH-neutral, lightfast, water-based, and finely filtered to help prevent fountain pen clogging. The 1670 and 1798 Anniversary collections feature delicate gold or silver shimmer particles and offer an even richer depth of colour.
The 17th-century Jacques Herbin was an adventurous entrepreneur. During several journeys to India, he learned the art of producing high-quality ink and sealing wax. In 1670, he founded his business in Paris, specializing in sealing wax and luxury writing instruments. His craftsmanship quickly earned him a prestigious clientele, including King Louis XIV. In 1798, the fourth generation of the Herbin family introduced Jacques Herbin's own line of inks.
The company maintained exceptionally high quality standards and received numerous awards for the excellence of its inks and sealing wax. Victor Hugo wrote his masterpieces using a deep black ink specially developed for him by Jacques Herbin. The iconic Perle Noire ink is directly inspired by this historic writing ink.
